This Little Bird

Chiming from “Sylvan Hour”, Allison Crowe’s newest, classic, release is “This Little Bird”. Born on the Pacific, in the Harbour City of Nanaimo, BC, Canada – Crowe migrated to lovely Corner Brook, Newfoundland, on Atlantic shores right after recording this batch of songs. The bi-coastal musician’s creative flight shows she’s made good on her promise: “This little bird’s gonna see the good life has to offer / and how you can give your heart and still feel free”.

Accompanying Allison Crowe’s music on this video journey are scenes from “The Song of the Birds” – 1935 entry in the ‘Color Classics’ animation series of Fleischer Studios.

Little Light - cover colored by moomki

Argentina-based visual artist moomki colorizes the b/w album/CD of Allison Crowe's "Little Light". In this very cool video, you can see the transformation of the cover imagery - which arises from a photo by Billie Woods, taken when Allison was visiting Pender Island, Canada for a concert. The music is "There Is" - the version from "This Little Bird".

This Little Bird

"This Little Bird" adds the final straw to Allison Crowe's album/CD of the same name. Fitting today as Allison is back in her nest in "a corner in the East" - following a series of concerts that add to the legend. Allison, piano and voice, is again accompanied by Dave Baird, bass, and Laurent Boucher, percussion, featuring... cowbell!

Skeletons and Spirits

In the days of 45 rpm singles, this song, "Skeletons and Spirits", could form a "double A-side" with "Effortless".

A favourite Allison Crowe tune for many, including other performers, it's also been the music to a fun range of videos - including this recent animation by Norwich, UK-based Christina Worby.

Oh Canada... Cut the Cake

When she's not cooking up music, Allison Crowe is baking rainbow cakes, tossing salads, knitting helmets and all manner of things. Celebrating her secret life is a new blog - "7 Thumbs Up". Dig in, and dig it ( :

To accompany all the good food and bonhomie, we've selected a vintage song performance - in fact, "A Case of You". According to legend, this Joni Mitchell song, (originally on her "Blue" album), references the relationship of Mitchell and Leonard Cohen, two quintessential Canadian singer-songwriters.

Saluting this, July 1, Canada Day, here's Allison's interpretation (from her "This Little Bird" album).

This Little Bird

Canada's Allison Crowe, on piano and vocals, lays down another song track with Dave Baird on bass and Laurent Boucher on percussion. ("This Little Bird", on the album of the same name, a song that playfully celebrates freedom, makes me think of other such innocent fun as The Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night".)

While she puts together her next album, Im riffing through a batch of photos of Allison just stumbled upon, and picking up other cultural footnotes.

Conan OBrien, American comedian and late-night television host, now a free bird, gave a moving farewell in signing off 'The Tonight Show'. After thanking his fans for coming together to make a sad situation joyous and inspirational, 'Coco' addressed his audience, directing these words particularly to young people watching:

"All I ask is one thing... Please do not be cynical. I hate cynicism. For the record, it's my least favorite quality. It doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen. I'm telling you, amazing things will happen. I'm telling you. It's just true."

This calls for more... cowbell.
